Go Organic, You Know You Want to!
It seems as if everyone in the world is talking about the benefits of eating organic food. However, the one place where people do not love organic foods is often the check-out lane, when you realize the cost difference between organic and non-organic fruits or vegetables.
Fortunately, growing your own food means that you can make whatever choices you think are best and if that includes organic foods, you are in luck. The amount of pesticides and antibiotics that go into the foods we eat every day is staggering. On a small scale, there is not a huge difference in price between growing organically and growing non-organically, but you should keep in mind that there is a wide variety of options when it comes to choosing pesticides. There are “natural” pesticides, which are usually made from naturally occurring ingredients and the harsher pesticides that so many people worry about.
Creating and using your own compost to help with gardening is also very popular. If you have a place that is out of the way, where your compost will not bother you, your neighbors or other members of your family, compost could help your garden grow and help the environment by not contributing more trash to the landfills.
Fresh Herbs are Better than Those You Can buy at the Store
Most people know that with enough marinating and the right herbs, even the driest, cheapest cut of meat can turn into something delicious. What you may not know is that it is incredibly easy to grow many herbs, including Thyme, Basil, and Chives, among many others. Some are easier to grow, and Basil and Sage are often more challenging to produce. If you are new to gardening or new to container gardening, you may want to avoid both of those.
Gardening can be an immense joy and a wonderful way to save money. It is not always easy and you will invariably have some plants not grow well, but one day you will see them blooming and be amazed you didn’t garden before.
